Israel meddling in British judiciary

Israel meddling in British judiciary

Why is Israel interfering in the British legal process? This is the question asked by Palestine action activists as 18 of their number currently languish in jail.

The Felton 18 have been remanded in custody and will have been held for over a year before they face trial. They are accused of overrunning the new Elbit Systems Research and Development base in Bristol.

It’s alleged they caused over a million pounds worth of damage to the site, including to the murderous quadcopters that Israel uses to lure Palestinians out of their homes in Gaza with the sounds of babies crying, and then kill them.

Whether declared innocent or guilty, these people are heroes whom history will smile upon for their courageous sacrifice.

But the question now is whether Israel has been directly interfering in the British legal process to cause such a situation.

A heavily redacted email was obtained by Palestine Action in a Freedom of Information request. It shows that the UK Attorney General’s office sent contact details for the police unit dealing with Palestine Action cases to the Israeli embassy.

In 2023, it was also revealed by the Guardian that the Israeli embassy was attempting to influence the Attorney General’s office over Palestine Action cases.

In reality, the long lobbying of the British government to crush Palestine action has gone on for several years. The first of these documented meetings took place on March 2, 2022, between Elbit systems UK CEO, Martin Fausset and then home secretary and well-known Israeli asset, Priti Patel.

Key points raised by the home secretary in the meeting acknowledge that Palestine actions criminal activity is for the police to investigate, and though they are operationally independent of the government, meaning the government cannot direct their response, officials have been in contact with the police about Palestine action.

The first conviction of a Palestine Action activist took place within the same month as the meeting with Priti Patel on March 29, 2022.

According to the general principles 2.1 of the Code for Crown Prosecutors prosecutors must be free to carry out their professional duties without political interference, and must not be affected by improper or undue pressure or influence from any source.

Thus, all cases against Palestine action must be dismissed as they are taking place under undue pressure and influence.
