We don’t look too far ahead, says Salt

HYDERABAD: No one likes to lose games in cricket. We have qualified and we have lost a game. You can take it as a disappointment, says Phil Salt, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener after the team lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow on Friday night.
“We’re going to get an opportunity to pick the bones out of it and have a look. Things we did well and things we didn’t do so well and come back. We’ve got one more group game and then head into the playoffs. Yeah, it’s a funny one,” Salt said in the post-match briefing.
“Honestly, we qualify for the playoffs. Once you’re into the playoffs, you have to go and play in a pretty carefree manner and do what you can to win the trophy. We’re not too far ahead of ourselves at the moment with that thinking,” Salt said.
“As far as I know, in a few days’ time, we’re playing again here against Lucknow in a game that we want to win and want to show everyone how good we are. So it’s pretty simple, pretty straightforward. We’re just looking at the next game,” he said.
“You know, obviously the schedule has done a bit of jumping around. But, yeah, we’ve got another opportunity to go out and, you know, show ourselves and show our fans what we can do before those playoffs begin. I think, you know, we did a lot of good things chasing it down,” he said.
“Obviously, we got it to a point, you know, at 15 overs where every single person in our dressing room would believe that we’re going to win that game. The margins are, you know, most of the time fine, but the margins for failure were very fine tonight. You know, you hit an over for 20 at that point of the game, we go a long way to icing the game,” Salt explained.
“We’re going to have another look at it and see what we did well and what we can do better. I can’t speak for anyone else,” he said.
