Hyderabad: A city-based aerospace and defence manufacturing firm, Raghu Vamsi Machine Tools (RVMT), has reportedly announced plans to develop a cutting-edge kamikaze drone.

According to multiple social media posts, including on X, the proposed drone was showcased recently at an industry event and will have RVMT’s fully indigenous micro turbojet engine, ‘INDRA RV25:240N’, as its soul.

The drone is said to have a projected range of 500 km. The social media posts, which quoted an RVMT presentation at the event, said the INDRA micro turbojet engine weighs just 25 kg, making it ideal for small, high-speed UAVs.

According to another post, the INDRA’s hybrid propulsion system, pairing the jet engine with electric propulsion, could enhance endurance and speed, allowing the drone to have the range of 500 km, which makes it ideal for kamikaze drones that strike targets while maintaining long-range loitering capabilities.

Such loitering munitions played a critical role during India’s recent Operation Sindoor. The firm is yet to release more details on the project.
