Architecture and Design Foundation celebrate 100 years of Art Deco Style

Hyderabad: Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad in association with Architecture and Design Foundation [India] organized an event in Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan celebrating 100 years of Art Deco Style of architecture.
Raj Bhavan was chosen as a preferred venue, as the Governor’s residence itself, is deigned in Art deco style, by architect Eric Marrett and was built in 1936.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated the event with the launch of a special logo symbol for the yearlong celebrations. The symbol, graphically represents the grand staircase of the Main House- which is the official residence of the Governor.
This was followed by two presentations by architect Srinivas Murthy, showcasing architecture of Raj Bhavan and other Art Deco buildings of the city.
The key note address was delivered by Mumbai-based architect Abha Narain Lambah, presenting her work or documenting the Art Deco Precincts of Mumbai, which enable them getting the coveted World Heritage Listing.
The Governor appreciated the work done by the Foundation and Abha, in documenting details and importance of such architectural styles and emphasized on the need to preserve and protect such buildings and precincts for prosperity.
