Israel uses water as weapon of war

Water has been weaponised In Palestine.

Controlling water has long been a major technique of war employed by Israel since its creation on occupied Palestinian land in 1948.

It started with the Haganah gangs poisoning Palestinian wells with bacteria and has not yet ended as the occupation army keeps bombing Gaza water sources.

Two years of unabated genocidal bombing has been more than enough to destroy all the water works and distribution infrastructure across the besieged strip.

The fuel crisis has worsened the situation. Moreover, after the Israeli occupation bombed the solar panels, it is hard to operate pumping engines.

Every three days we managed to pump water to the gallons.

Before the ground invasion the water disability was 50% but, now, it is 90%!

I am not exaggerating.

After 61 days of complete Israeli closure of all Gaza crossings, preventing the entry of fuel required for operating the water sanitation systems and pumps into the Gaza Strip, the water crisis has intensified.

Not only because of this suffocating blockade, but also because of Israel’s previous deliberate bombing of almost all water wells and distribution lines, particularly in the east where the occupation army continues expanding its ground invasion.

We walk long distances to obtain water. I usually stand in long queues, especially when they run out of fuel.

This one provides clean water. Unlike others where you directly feel stomach ache after tasting as what happened with me last week. I couldn’t even find medicines for the abdominal pain in the pharmacies.

Young Gazan 01

Like this child, many people walk rather long distances to this water station in order to acquire a portable amount of water.

This is one of the few pumps still functioning in Gaza, where over 80% of water and sanitation infrastructure is partially or completely out of service.

As the water crisis in Gaza intensifies, the international community fails once again to intervene to put an end to the suffering of 2.2 million Gazans, ongoing for two years now.
