Karimnagar: Residents of Korkal of Veenavanka mandal on Friday staged a rasta roko in protest against the irregularities in the allocation of Indiramma houses.
Vehicular traffic on the Karimnagar-Jammikunta road came to standstill for about an hour as the agitators refused to withdraw their protest. They also raised slogans against the State government.
Villagers accused the Congress leaders of favouring their cronies giving a go-by to their earlier promise of sanctioning Indiramma houses to the poor. Some leaders were demanding Rs 20,000 to get a house sanctioned, they alleged.
While ignoring many homeless people, ruling party leaders were sanctioning houses to those who had already built half portion of the houses after collecting bribes. They sought intervention of higher officials and do justice to the poor.
