Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) has announced the ‘scientists at the farmers doorstep’ programme aimed at providing essential information on agricultural practices to farmers. The University has also announced a 15 per cent admissions quota for farm labour children.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, PJTAU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aldas Janaiah said around 200 teams of scientists would visit around 1,200 revenue villages across the State as part of the programme, which would be conducted from May 5 to June 13.

Each team would consist of two scientists, agricultural officers, agricultural students, and other local government staff, including progressive farmers, he said, adding that local representatives, teachers, and students will also be involved in the programme.

The teams would create awareness on key aspects such as reducing urea usage, conservation of soil fertility through judicious use of chemicals, efficient use of irrigation water, crop rotation, tree plantation and environmental protection, he said.

The university decided to provide 15 per cent reservation for farm labour children from 40 per cent quota reserved for farmers’ children in agricultural education admissions, he added.
