We have the desire to finish the season well, says Sunrisers head coach Vettori

Vettori admits it’s been a consistent struggle throughout the season in putting up a collective performance together

HYDERABAD: Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori said that despite what was going on so far for his team, there would always be a desire to finish the season well.

“We understand that finishing the season well can give a lot of optimism to the franchise going forward. So, we know that it hasn’t been the season that we’re after, the expectations were quite high for the team coming in,” Vettori said on the eve of the IPL league match against Delhi Capitals here on Sunday.

“We still believe that there are 11 really good players that will take the park and that they’ve all had huge amounts of success, whether it be in IPL or at some stage in their international careers and also at some stage throughout the season,” he said.

“Like I said before, at some stage, individually, they have delivered. It’s just us putting that collective performance together,” Vettori said. “It’s been a consistent struggle throughout the season,” he added.

“There are no fitness concerns from our end, I think Shami has trained and prepared as well as he can, and I know that he had high expectations coming into the tournament based on how well he bowled in the Champions Trophy,” Vettori said.

“The remaining four games could produce a different story, and we’re able to talk positively about more players depending on what they’re able to do but I think if I just take off the top of my head, I think Aniket Verma has been incredible this season,” the SRH head coach said.

“The goal for us is obviously to put a performance together that incorporates all three disciplines, and that’s what’s been missing so far, but for me in particular, if we can field well, then I think that’ll have a huge bearing on the game,” he said.
