KRMB committee meeting to be rescheduled

Hyderabad: The three-member committee of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) is likely to meet by the weekend to take a call on the fresh water indents placed by the two Telugu States.

Telangana has submitted an indent for 10.26 tmc of Krishna water to meet its drinking water needs until the end of July 2025. The request includes- 300 cusecs from the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme for the Mahbubnagar district, 750 cusecs from the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project (AMRP) to supply Hyderabad and Nalgonda and 300 cusecs from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project for the Khammam district.

Telangana has also urged the KRMB to limit Andhra Pradesh’s allocation to just 0.5 tmcft for drinking water purposes until the end of July 2025 as the state had already exhausted allotted its entitled share. AP however has placed a fresh water indent and sought permission to draw water from the project right canal to meet its drinking water needs for May this year. The three-member committee meeting of the KRMB, scheduled for May 5, 2025, was postponed due to the absence of Andhra Pradesh’s Irrigation Engineer-in-Chief, Venkateswara Rao, who was engaged in an inspection of the Polavaram project.

As a result no decisions were made regarding the release of Krishna water to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The meeting, which was meant to finalize water allocations until July 2025, will be rescheduled soon.
