Mulugu: Three security personnel were killed in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in the district on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the forests of Veerabhadrapuram-Perur spread around Karregutta hills in Wazedu-Venkatapuram mandals in the district when Telangana Greyhounds police were carrying out regular combing operations.
The Maoists after triggering the improvised explosive device also fired at the police. According to sources nearly eight police personnel were said to have been injured in the blast and firing. The injured were shifted to Warangal and Hyderabad for treatment.
It might be noted that the Maoists have recently issued a statement claiming to have planted IEDs all over Karregutta hills and warned the local Adivasis not to climb the hills. Several persons were injured in IED blasts on the hills recently.
