Palestinian journalist killed in Gaza hours after celebrating daughter’s birth
Palestinian journalist, Yahya Subaih, was killed in a deadly Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip, just hours after celebrating the birth of his daughter.
Subaih, who worked for several media outlets, lost his life in the Israeli aerial assault that targeted a restaurant in western Gaza City. The attack also claimed the lives of over ten other people and wounded dozens.
Subaih’s death has brought the number of martyred journalists in Gaza to 214 since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on the besieged territory nearly 19 months ago.
Before his death, the journalist had posted a photo of himself joyfully holding his newborn daughter. Subaih wrote, “Our little princess has brightened our world. Praise be to God for blessing us with our precious daughter. May He make her righteous and a source of joy for our eyes.”
In a statement, the Government Media Office in Gaza held the occupying regime, as well as the US and certain European countries, fully responsible for the heinous crime.
The media office also denounced Israel’s “systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists”.
The media office further called on the global community, as well as international media organizations, to condemn Israel in international courts over its atrocities against Palestinians and bring the regime’s criminals to justice.
“We also call on them to put serious and effective pressure to stop the crime of genocide, protect journalists and media professionals in the Gaza Strip, and stop the crime of killing and assassinating them,” the statement added.
Israel launched its brutal onslaught on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the Hamas resistance group carried out the historic Al-Aqsa storm operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.
The Tel Aviv regime failed to achieve its declared objectives in Gaza despite killing at least 52,653 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 118,897 others.
It accepted Hamas’s longstanding negotiation terms under a Gaza ceasefire, which began on January 19.
Two months later, however, Israel unilaterally broke the truce and resumed its relentless bombing of Gaza.
