Hyderabad: Indian compound archers clinched a gold, silver and bronze apiece in the team events at the World Cup Stage II archery championship in Shanghai on Saturday.

This is significant given the fact that compound archery is set to be included for the first time in Olympics in the 2028 Los Angeles edition.

Indian men’s team comprising Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale and Rishabh Yadav edged out Mexico 232-228 in a thrilling final to win the gold.

In the women’s compound final, the team of Vijayawada-based Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar and Chikitha Taniparthi won silver after a 221-234 loss to a strong Mexican side.

Adding to the medal tally, the Indian compound mixed team of Verma and Madhura clinched bronze, defeating Malaysia in a low-scoring third-place playoff.

The 24-year-old Madhura, who had never won a World Cup medal before, is making her second appearance in the competition having made a comeback after three years.

Her last appearance was in the 2022 Archery World Cup Stage IV in Medellin.
