Hyderabad: Rishitha Reddy Basireddy of Telangana won the gold in women’s tennis of the Khelo India Youth Games in Patna on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old Rishitha defeated Aishwarya Jadhav of Maharashtra 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the final.


D Laxmi Siri of Hyderabad won a bronze medal in singles, besides the women’s doubles silver.

Earlier, in the semifinal, Rishitha got the better of Harshini Nagaraj of Karnataka for a 7-5, 6-1 win.

In the previous rounds, the Hyderabad girl scored a 6-2, 6- 2 win against Mahika Khanna of Uttar Pradesh, 6-3, 7-5 victory against Sejal Bhutada of Maharashtra.

In doubles, Rishitha partnered with her statemate D Laxmi Siri to settle for a silver medal. For the record, in the Junior ITF category, Rishitha currently holds No.1 position in Telangana and No. 3 position from India, and international ranking is 177.

The young talent is selected to represent India in the International Lawn Tennis Club (IC) Rod Laver Cup to be held in Barcelona, Spain, in July. Rishitha was part of the winning team of the IC Rod Laver Cup Asia Oceania regional event.
