Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA P Sabitha Indra Reddy lambasted the Congress government, calling the act of Telangana women washing the feet of Miss World contestants a grave insult to the dignity of women in the State.
“This is a land where brave women like Rani Rudramadevi and Sammakka-Saralamma were born. What happened is not just shameful, it’s despicable. The government owes an apology to the entire women community for its actions,” she said.
The BRS leader questioned the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, by sending such regressive signals. “The same government that promises to make crores of women millionaires is now reducing women to perform foot-washing rituals for foreign guests,” she said.
Pointing to the stark contrast in women’s realities, Sabitha Indra Reddy pointed out that while rural women walk miles for drinking water, the government is busy staging such symbolic acts. She warned that the history has never forgiven those who humiliated women and the current Congress government too will face the consequences of its actions.
Reacting to the incident, BRS working president KT Rama Rao declared on X, “Congress Chief Minister has officially lost his mind.”
