Hyderabad: People in Hyderabad and across multiple districts of Telangana State are likely to experience heavy rains along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds for one more week.

In its forecast on Thursday, the Hyderabad MET department an orange alert indicating intense spells of heavy rain, thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds of speed 50 to 60 kmph for Hyderabad and multiple districts in Telangana State until Tuesday, May 20.


The districts for which the orange alert has been issued for the coming three to four days include Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Jagtial, Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rangareddy, Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts of Telangana.

Almost all the remaining districts including Adilabad, Kumarambheem Asifabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Siricilla, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Mancherial, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhongir districts and other districts will also continue to witness thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, gusty winds (40 kmph to 50 kmph) and hailstorms.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad and neighboring districts of Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy district received extensive overnight thunderstorms, heavy winds and cloudy conditions. Widespread thunderstorms were also reported across multiple districts of Telangana State with some regions receiving as much as 94.3 mm of rainfall between Wednesday night and Thursday early hours.

Some regions in districts that received maximum rainfall include Kohir (Sangareddy) (94.3 mm), Tekmal (Medak) 89.5 mm, Chandampet (Nalgonda) (80 mm), Pulkal (Sangareddy) 75. 8 mm, Kadthal (Rangareddy) (69.5 mm).

Heavy thunderstorms lasting 20-25 minutes were reported in multiple locations across Hyderabad and its surroundings, followed by windy and overcast conditions.

In Hyderabad, thunderstorms were active in Rajendranagar, Attapur, Charminar, Aramghar, Chandrayangutta, Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, Shaikpet, Banjara Hill, Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Narsingi and areas under Serilingampally mandals. Overnight and early morning showers were also reported in several parts of Secunderabad, North-Eastern parts of the city including Trimulgherry, Dr A S Rao Nagar, Kapra, ECIL, Nagaram, Marredpally etc.
