Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet members to personally plant saplings to compensate for the large-scale felling of trees in Kancha Gachibowli lands adjacent to the University of Hyderabad campus, in the wake of the Supreme Court observations.
In an open letter to the Chief Minister and his Cabinet, Sravan condemned the tree felling, terming it as unforgivable. He said the Congress government’s actions have not only destroyed the biodiversity, but also betrayed future generations.
Citing the Supreme Court’s observations, he said the tree felling was carried out under the direct orders of the Congress government. “The murder of living trees is not just an environmental crime, it is a betrayal of the people, university students and nature,” he said.
The BRS legislator felt that silence and arrogance will not absolve the government. Instead, he suggested that the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues to repent, and take up a mass plantation drive.
“Only sweat and labour can revive public trust,” he said, adding that the government must act to regain respect and credibility or face people’s wrath.
