Yemenis stage new protests in solidarity with Gaza

Yemenis have staged new protests in the capital Sana’a and other provinces across the country in solidarity with Palestinians who are subjected to Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

On Friday, people gathered in Al-Sabeen Square in Sana’a under the slogan “With Gaza to confront the crime of genocide and starvation.”

The demonstrators were carrying the flags of Yemen and Palestine, and banners condemning the Israeli crimes against the Palestinians.

The statement issued by the protest’s organizers noted that the Palestinians’ steadfastness and acts of resistance “bans the repetition of the Nakba” in other countries.

Nakba Day is commemorated on May 15 every year, marking the day after Israel declared its existence in 1948. That year also saw a war between Israel and a coalition of Arab states over the control of Palestine, during which some 700,000 Palestinians were driven out of their homes and hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages were destroyed.

“With these immortal stances, you stand as a stumbling block in front of the Zionist enemy, protecting the Arab and Islamic nation from the repetition of Nakbas (catastrophes) against other countries,” the statement said.

The protesters slammed the Arab silence on the Israeli crimes in Gaza, and reiterated their support for their country’s anti-Israel military operations, including the latest missile attack on Ben Gurion International Airport in the occupied territories.

The statement also slammed US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to West Asia, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, noting that he is “the primary partner” of Israel in its crimes.

Similar protests took place in 14 provinces across Yemen, including Sa’ada.

On an almost weekly basis, Yemenis have been staging mass protests across the country to decry the Israeli atrocities in Gaza, and to reiterate their support for their country’s retaliatory operations.

Since the onset of Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, Yemeni forces have carried out scores of operations in support of the war-hit Gazans, striking targets throughout the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to targeting Israeli ships or vessels heading towards ports in the occupied territories.

Israel launched a genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

The regime’s bloody onslaught on Gaza has so far killed at least 53,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
