Israeli army kills Palestinian teen during raid in northern West Bank

Amid heightened West Bank tensions, Israeli military forces fatally shot a Palestinian teenager and injured two others during intensified raids by occupation troops.

Palestinian media outlets reported that a large number of Israeli military vehicles stormed the village of Burqa, located northwest of Nablus, on Saturday evening, closed streets, stopped and harassed many Palestinians while inspecting their ID cards, leading to protests.

The Palestinian Health Ministry stated that the General Authority for Civil Affairs officially informed it that 16-year-old Nidal Wael Abdul-Karim Shaghnoubi had been shot dead before Israeli soldiers took away his corpse.

The health ministry said the soldiers did not provide treatment to the seriously wounded teenager, and prevented Palestinian medics from reaching him before he succumbed to his wounds.

The Israeli army alleged that soldiers from its “Unit 636” observed the Palestinian reportedly throwing stones at military vehicles before they “neutralized” him. It added that no injuries were reported among the soldiers.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said its medics treated two teenagers, aged 17 and 13, after soldiers shot them with live rounds in their arms and moved them to a hospital in Nablus.

Following the fatal shooting, Israeli forces closed the main Jenin-Nablus road near the village’s main entrance and obstructed Palestinian traffic, especially near the illegal Homesh settlement.

Additionally, a young Palestinian man was injured on Saturday evening after being shot by Israeli occupation forces at the entrance to Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, its medics treated the man for a gunshot wound to the thigh and transported him to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Since the beginning of the war on Gaza in October 2023, at least 968 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops and settlers, and more than 7,000 others injured, in the West Bank, according to Palestinian figures.

Last July, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared that Israel’s long-standing occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal, demanding the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
