Hyderabad: Heavy thunderstorms along with lightning and gusty winds have continued to lash Hyderabad and districts of Telangana State for the past 24-hours. There are no signs of the ongoing trend of widespread thunderstorms across Telangana State relenting.

On Monday, the Hyderabad MET department issued a heavy rainfall alert at multiple locations, and temperatures are expected to drop by 3 degree Celsius to 5 degree Celsius in most parts of the State.


While storms in Hyderabad and neighboring districts are expected between Monday night and early hours of Tuesday, according to reports, several districts including Bhadrachalam, Kothagudem, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet among others witnessed storms.

The Hyderabad MET department in its forecast on Monday evening indicated that the present situation of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds will continue across multiple locations in Telangana State till this month end.

In the coming two to three days, the Hyderabad MET department indicated that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (30 to 40 kmph) are very likely to occur isolated places in all the districts of Telangana State.

For the next three-days, heavy rains with thunderstorms are likely to occur in most of the districts of Telangana State, IMD forecast indicated. Overall, similar weather conditions are expected to continue till May 26, 2025, according to IMD Hyderabad.

 

‘South west monsoons to hit Telangana by Month end’

Noted weather forecaster who tracks weather patterns 24/7 in Hyderabad on social medial platform X, T Balaji on Monday said that by May 27 (one day before or after), South West Monsoons will hit Telangana State.

“There will be excellent monsoon rainfall ahead during May last week with complete drop in temperatures and cloudy skies. Twin systems in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea will push the monsoons into Telangana State by May 27,” T Balaji posted on X.

Six days after the onset of monsoons, there will be a break in monsoons during first or second week of June. However, by that time, monsoons would have already set-in, so don’t expect hot temperatures, he added.
