Telangana: Farmer charred to death after officials leave broken power lines unattended in Khammam

Khammam: Alleged negligence of Electricity Department officials claimed the life of a farmer at Kothur village of Sathupalli mandal in the district on Monday.

According to the locals, the wires of a 33kv distribution line had snapped after unseasonal rains on Sunday night damaged electricity poles at the village. However, officials neither disconnected power supply to the line nor carried out repairs.

The farmer, P Muralidhar Reddy (59), was going to his farm field on his motorbike when the bike came in contact with the live 11kv electric wires. The motorcycle caught fire, following which Reddy was charred to death. The local police have booked a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
