BRS and Congress activists clashing at Dharmaram on Tuesday.
Peddapalli: Tension prevailed in Dharmaram mandal headquarters when BRS cadre were attacked by Congress activists.
Responding to a challenge from Congress leaders for a debate on the development done in the mandal during Koppula Eshwar’s tenure as Minister, BRS activists led by party mandal president Rachuri Sridhar tried to reach the venue near the Ambedkar statue on Tuesday in a rally, which was prevented by police at KDCC bank.
While they were preparing to address the media, Congress activists rushed in and allegedly attacked the BRS workers. Chaos prevailed as the situation turned tense and the groups raised slogans against each other.
The police, who tried to control both sides, chased them away but they tried to gather at the spot again, with the Congress workers attacking the BRS cadre even as the police watched. As a result, traffic on Karimnagar-Rayapatnam road came to a standstill for about one hour.
BRS leaders alleged that unable to debate on development, Congress leaders had attacked them. Stating that there was no question of being scared of Congress leaders, BRS leaders said they were ready to debate at any time.
