Dubai: A Telugu NRI worker, who was hoping to celebrate Eid with his family back home in India, died, with his body reaching his family just before the festival.

Shaikh Mohammed Akbar, 60, who was working as a driver in Abha city in Saudi Arabia, collapsed and died while being shifted to hospital on February 19 and his body was repatriated on Thursday.


A native of Chandragiri in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, Akbar was planning to spend Ramzan with his family, his brother Sattar said.

Ibrahim Pattambi, a noted social worker in the area, helped the family to complete legal formalities to repatriate the body. According to Pattambi, the body of a Telangana NRI was also repatriated home at the same time.

Jalagam Ashok of Koheda Mandal in Siddipet district died on February 8 in a remote place in the Southern province and his body was also repatriated back home on Thursday, Pattambi said.
