Hyderabad: Young psychiatrists must actively engage with voluntary organisations to spread awareness on the importance of mental health, senior neuropsychiatrist, Dr Vishal Akula on Monday said.

Delivering a talk on “Career Opportunities for Young Psychiatrists after Post-Graduation” in the Indian Psychiatric Society East Zone Young Psychiatrists Conference on Monday at Pobitora National Park, Assam, Dr Vishal said that there is also a need to educate general medical practitioners about various kinds of mental health issues through platforms like Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Highlighting the significance of modern psychiatric treatments, Dr Akula emphasised the critical role of proper mental health management for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and post-suicide attempt care.

Furthermore, he encouraged conducting awareness programmes in rural and tribal areas, developing leadership skills, and building professional networks through active association with the IMA and Nehru Yuva Kendra.
