Karimnagar: Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar dared Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to impose Rs 1 lakh penalty on private school managements which arranged buses for the BRS silver jubilee meeting. There was no question of keeping quiet if any school management was touched, he said.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, the MLA said in order to create hurdles for the meeting, the Transport Minister, through RTA officials, sent messages to private school managements against arranging buses for the BRS meeting.

The message read: “School buses are not to be utilised for any political party meeting and activity. Any school management found arranging transportation for such purposes will face penalty of Rs 1 lakh from RTA.”

Stating that the messages were sent to managements at 8.30 am on Sunday, he questioned why the Transport Department was silent all these days and sent messages just a few hours before the meeting.

Despite the department’s warning, school managements voluntarily arranged buses for the BRS meeting. The Transport Minister failed to prevent them from doing so, he said and dared the department to impose the penalty.

“How many schools will the government penalise?” he asked. BRS cadres would have gone for the meeting on foot or by tractors or other mode of transportation if the buses were not available. The meeting would not have stalled due to the lack of buses, he said.

Stating that facing suppression was not new for the party, he said the BRS would come up with flying colours if the State government tried to suppress the party.

Instead of creating troubles for opposition parties, the government should change its attitude and focus on the implementation of the six guarantees and 420 promises, he said.
