Kothagudem: One person died, while six persons, including three South Korean tourists, were injured after two cars collided head-on at Vinobha Nagar in Julurpad mandal in the district on Tuesday. The vehicles were badly damaged due to the impact of the collision.
According to police, the South Korean tourists were going to Bhadrachalam to have darshan of the deities at Bhadradri Temple in a car. A private employee, Vanapakula Sambasiva Rao (25) of Ramanujagudem in Allapalli mandal was going to Hyderabad in another car along with his family members when the incident took place.
He was returning to Hyderabad after attending his sister-in-law’s marriage in Burgampad mandal. Sambasiva Rao succumbed to head injuries while his family members Sri Latha and Sadhya were undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in Kothagudem.
The South Koreans and their car driver, Darshan of Hyderabad, who were given first aid at Government General Hospital in Kothagudem were shifted to Khammam for better treatment. Julurpad police booked a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Police suspect that over speeding might be the reason for the accident.
