Sangareddy: Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha and Medak MP M Raghunandan Rao are battling it out between themselves to get a Navodaya Vidyalaya, recently sanctioned by the Centre to Sangareddy district, in their own constituencies.
As the Centre granted seven new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas to Telangana including one to Sangareddy as part of the government’s policy to set up one institute in every district, the Minister and MP are trying to set up the institute in their constituencies, both of which are in Sangareddy district.
While Damodara Rajanarasimha has directed district officials to identify suitable land for setting up the Navodaya campus in Andole constituency, Raghunandan Rao has asked officials to identify suitable land in Ameenpur of Patancheru assembly constituency, which falls under Medak Lok Sabha constituency.
The officials are in a dilemma with both leaders not ready to relent. While one team of officials identified a location in Andole constituency, another team of officials identified another site in Ameenpur municipality.
Since the Centre has decided to start the Navodaya Vidyalaya from the 2025-26 academic year, officials were preparing to start the school in a temporary building on the premises of the Zilla Parishad High School in Jogipet, which falls under Andole constituency.
While Raghunandan Rao was lobbying in New Delhi to set up the school in his constituency, sources in the district administration said the State government would have the final say on where to set up the institute.
As the days for the beginning of the academic year are closing in, both leaders aere making all out efforts to set up the institute in their own constituency.
