Hyderabad: Senior BRS MLA and former Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday denounced Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his derogatory remarks and undignified rhetoric against BRS chief and Leader of Opposition K Chandrashekhar Rao. He charged the Chief Minister for stooping to a new low by misusing Basaveshwara Jayanti and the SSC exam results announcement to poison young minds for petty politics, rather than encouraging them to achieve new heights.
In a strong counter to the Chief Minister, Harish Rao said Revanth Reddy was jittery ever since the massive success of BRS silver jubilee meeting. He said consumed by political insecurity, Revanth Reddy was obsessed with attacking Chandrashekhar Rao, indicating his political immaturity as well. “His speeches have turned bitter and directionless,” he said, adding that Revanth Reddy’s remarks about Chandrashekhar Rao were undignified.
Rubbishing Revanth Reddy’s claims, the former Minister reminded that Telangana statehood was not granted by the Congress, but it was the result of a mass movement led by Chandrashekhar Rao. “Revanth Reddy might claim credit now, but it was Chandrashekhar Rao who created a situation where Delhi had no choice. Telangana was not gifted by Congress, but was earned through the people’s movement and sacrifice,” he asserted.
Listing several stalled welfare schemes, Harish Rao said the Congress government had dismantled much of the previous administration’s work and pushed the State into an economic decline within 16 months. “Dalit Bandhu, BC Bandhu, double-bedroom housing, scholarships, and sheep distribution—all have been shelved. The Congress boasts of prioritising youth, but where are the scooties, the jobs, or the Education Assurance Card promised in the election manifesto?” he asked.
The BRS legislator challenged Revanth Reddy for an open debate on key issues including Kaleshwaram, farm loan waivers, and job creation. “You threw the gauntlet and I accept. Name the time and place,” he said, warning Revanth Reddy against assuming that he would last 10 years in power. “Forget 10 years. Focus on keeping your chair intact for the next three,” he said.
Calling the Congress regime the most disappointing in recent memory, he said every section -students, farmers, or the elderly, feel neglected. “This is a government without direction. People are watching. When the time comes, they will respond,” he warned. He slammed the Chief Minister for repeatedly insulting democratic institutions and public sentiment.
Further, Harish Rao took a swipe at the Chief Minister for insulting the legacy of 12th-century reformer Basaveshwara and also SSC results announcement by turning a government-organised event at Ravindra Bharathi into a political battleground. “Basaveshwara stood for equality beyond caste, religion and gender. The BRS government celebrated his birth anniversary officially to inspire citizens. It is shameful that Revanth Reddy used that very platform for political gains,” he said.
