Nirmal: The final rites of two siblings, who were killed in a road mishap at Jakranpalli village in Nizamabad district on Friday, were held at Lotharya Thanda in Pembi mandal on Saturday.

Locals and family members bid a tearful adieu to Banavath Manjula (17) and her sibling Ashwini (19) who died while returning from Hyderabad. Their mother Suguna wept inconsolably after losing her two daughters to a road accident. Their father Banavath Reddy migrated to Malaysia in search of livelihood.

Manjula studied Intermediate II year at Echoda mandal centre, while Ashwini pursued a degree in Adilabad town recently. Manjula along with Ashwini and their cousin Hamsaraju were on their way to Lotharya Thanda by a car after appearing for TG EAPCET-2025 at the time of the incident.

BRS leader Bhukya Johnson Naik took part in the funeral procession and paid tributes to the girls. He promised to extend all support to parents of the siblings on behalf of the party.

Both Manjula and Ashwini were killed on the spot, while Hamsaraju sustained injuries when the car, in which they were travelling in hit a culvert at Jakranpalli. Hamsaraju was admitted to a hospital in Nizamabad. His medical condition was said to be stable. A case was registered against Hamsaraju. Investigations were taken up.
