Rajanna Sircilla: A 55-year-old weaver, Bathula Vittal, died by suicide in Sircilla, as he was reportedly unable to cope with mounting debts.

A resident of Sundaraiahnagar in Sircilla town, Vittal hanged himself from the ceiling of his house on Saturday evening, while his family members were away visiting relatives.

When they returned later that night, they found the doors locked from inside. After repeated attempts to get a response, they alerted neighbours, who broke open the doors and found Vittal hanging.

Vittal, who had worked as a mechanic as well as in the powerloom sector, had reportedly fallen into debt due to lack of work over the past one-and-half years following the stalling of the Bathukamma saree production orders by the Congress government.

He is believed to have taken the extreme step as he was distressed over his financial situation.

He is survived by his wife Sharada, two daughters and a son. Police visited the spot and registered a case. An investigation is under way.
