Telangana: Internal rift resurfaces in Sangareddy Congress unit over Indiramma housing scheme

Choas during Sangareddy district Congress leaders’ meeting on Sunday.

Sangareddy: Differences between Congress leaders surfaced again in the district, with a section of leaders alleging that loyal Congress leaders were getting a raw deal in Indiramma House Committees, which will play a key role in selecting the Indiramma housing scheme beneficiaries.

During a district Congress committee leaders meeting in Sangareddy on Sunday, leaders were seen arguing with each other before Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha. Zaheerabad Congress leader Agam Chandrashekhar lamented that loyal Congress workers in the constituency were getting a raw deal as they were being denied representation in Indiramma committees.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Patancheru Assembly constituency also questioned the authority of MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy, who defected to the Congress from the BRS post the elections, in forming the Indiramma committees in Patancheru.

The leaders alleged that Mahipal Reddy was favouring BRS leaders ignoring loyal Congress workers.

Chaos prevailed for a while in the meeting as the rival groups argued even as the Minister and MLAs remained mute spectators. Parigi MLA Rammohan Reddy tried to convince the leaders, assuring them representation in Indiramma committees.

Mahipal Reddy himself became a topic for debate in the meeting for a while as he had denied joining the Congress earlier.

Earlier, the Congress leaders also included Mahipal Reddy’s portrait in the Congress party’s poster. When some leaders objected to it, they covered his picture with that of former MLC T Jeevan Reddy.

Later, Rajanarasimha said groups and differences were common in Congress, and called upon the leaders to ensure that the cadres got their due.
