Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Locals staged a sit-in on NH 363 demanding construction of side drains in Wankidi mandal centre ahead of the inauguration of the road network by Union Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday.
The agitating locals said that they were facing inconvenience due to delay in construction of a drainage system abutting the national highway in Wankidi mandal centre. They regretted that low-lying areas of the village were getting inundated once the village registered heavy rains. Sewage from several localities was also stagnating in the area.
Carrying placards against the Union government, the locals demanded the government to take steps for a drainage system and to avoid inconvenience to them at the earliest. They stated that the road was formed in 2024 spending around Rs 3,500 crore, but the side drains were not constructed so far. They slammed local BJP leaders for negligence in addressing the problem.
The protesters were detained for staging the sit-in on the NH in connection with the minister’s tour. Gadkari is scheduled to inaugurate the 94-kilometre national highway between Mancherial and Wankidi before addressing a public meeting in Kaghaznagar on Monday.
