Hyderabad: Under duress from private financiers, man attempts to die

Hyderabad: Facing harassment allegedly from financiers, a young man attempted to die by suicide by setting himself ablaze at Suraram on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Srinivas Kumar (40), a private employee, reportedly borrowed money from private financiers to the tune of Rs 10 lakh and was able to manage to repay a part of it.
However, recently, due to his financial instability, he could not pay the remaining money. According to his family members, the financiers started harassing him by making abusive and threatening calls.
Allegedly upset over this, he attempted suicide by dousing himself with petrol from his bike and setting himself on fire in front of the house of one of the financiers.
Srinivas suffered grievous burns and was immediately shifted to the hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
Based on a complaint, the Suraram police booked a case and took up an investigation. The police said they had not obtained any concrete evidence of harassment yet and that necessary action would be taken based on further investigation.
