Traffic congestion to become thing of past at BHEL Junction with new flyover

The 1.65-km BHEL Junction flyover on NH-65, inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, eases Sangareddy’s traffic woes. Built with the budget of Rs. 136 crore, it cuts commute times from 15-30 minutes to under two, with U-turns and service roads

Sangareddy: Traffic congestion at the busy BHEL Junction on NH-65 is all set to become a thing of the past from Monday with union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurating the 1.65-km-long flyover.

The junction, which often saw severe traffic jams with vehicles from Sangareddy, Lingampally, Ameenpur and Miyapur converging, had become a daily challenge for commuters. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) took up the flyover project to ease the burden, allowing traffic from Lingampally and Ameenpur to pass underneath. Two U-turns on either side of the flyover facilitate smoother vehicle movement.

Office-goers and school students were earlier forced to leave home 30 minutes in advance to avoid getting stuck. At peak hours, crossing the 2-km stretch could take 15 to 30 minutes.

Launched in October 2022 with an outlay of Rs. 136 crore, the flyover begins at Chandanagar and ends near Jyothi Theatre. Although the initial deadline was October 2024, the project was delayed by six months, and vehicular movement had unofficially begun a couple of months ago. Now, commuters take less than two minutes to cross the stretch.

Speaking to Telangana Today, BHEL employee Srikanth said he had avoided the route due to traffic jams and even refrained from admitting his children to schools towards Miyapur. He thanked NHAI officials, saying traffic congestion is no longer a concern.

Additionally, Roads and Buildings (R&B) and NHAI officials constructed service roads and stormwater drains on either side to manage rainwater and improve local traffic flow.
