Two arrested for extortion by posing as Maoists in Telangana’s Kothagudem

Kothagudem: The district police arrested two persons who were resorting to extortion posing as Maoists. Gundala SI Saida Rauf and staff, who were on patrolling at Turubaka village, spotted two persons moving suspiciously.
The duo, Payam Rajender of Allapalli and Kalthi Papaiah of Gundala mandals, were caught and questioned.
It was found that they both had previously worked in a CPI (ML) Praja Pratighatana dalam.
Papaiah was arrested in an attempt-to-murder case in 2010 and went to jail. Rajender surrendered before the Allapalli police.
The duo, accustomed to a lavish life, were threatening businessmen in Gundala and Allapalli mandals for the past three months demanding money for the Maoist party fund. Police seized Rs 5,000 in cash and a mobile phone from them.
If anyone posing as Maoists calls and threatens the public they should inform the police, the DSP said. He appreciated Gundala CI Lodiga Ravinder, SI Saida Rauf and Constable Venkateswarlu for arresting the accused.
