Hyderabad: At least 10 thatched huts were damaged when a fire broke out at Sai Nagar Colony in Alkapuri Colony near Nagole on Tuesday. No casualties were reported in the fire, which is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit and subsequent LPG leakage.

As per available information, the incident occurred when one of the huts caught fire due to gas leakage. Alerted by this, residents in the huts adjacent to it rushed out of the houses to safety. The incident created a panic situation in the vicinity.

Within minutes, the fire spread to other huts in the neighbourhood. Locals in the nearby residential area noticed the fire and thick smoke emanating from the huts and alerted the fire department and the police.

The police and the fire personnel rushed to the spot and, with fire engines and personnel from both fire and police departments and doused the fire. The presence of straw and plastic material in the huts could have led to the thick smoke apart from the unpleasant odour in the surroundings.

The total worth of the damaged property is yet to be estimated. A complaint was yet to be lodged. The police are investigating.
