Hyderabad: Annual Prisoners Sports and Cultural Meet kicks off at Cherlapalli

The three-day event will feature over 220 inmates, who have been transferred from various jails across Telangana

Hyderabad: The Department of Prisons and Correctional Services formally inaugurated the Annual Prisoners Sports and Cultural Meet – 2025 at the Central Prison in Cherlapalli on Friday.
This three-day event is being conducted after a gap of four years, with the last event held before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event was inaugurated by Ravi Gupta, Special Chief Secretary for Home, Telangana, who attended as chief guest. He expressed happiness in being part of the event and praised the department’s sustained efforts in promoting rehabilitation through structured physical and cultural activities.
Highlighting the physical and mental transformation of inmates, Ravi Gupta urged them to maintain their current level of fitness even after their release, underlining the long-term benefits of healthy living.
This year’s event will feature over 220 inmates, who have been transferred from various jails across Telangana.
Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services, Telangana, Dr.Soumya Mishra, reiterated the importance of such initiatives in nurturing discipline, mental resilience, teamwork, and fostering positive behavioural change among inmates.
