Telangana: Extend welfare schemes to tenant farmers, Congress government urged

HYDERABAD: Reminding the Congress government about the promises made to tenant farmers, the Rythu Swarajya Vedika demanded that they should be recognised and included in all schemes, besides implementation of Licensed Cultivators Act 2011 from Kharif season 2025.

Tenant farmers from districts participated in a consultation meeting of the Telangana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission. Later, they addressed media persons on Monday. Rythu Swarajya Vedika representatives including Kiran Kumar Vissa, B Kondal, Kanneganti Ravi and S Ashalatha said that as part of its Warangal Declaration and six guarantees, the Congress had promised to extend benefits under different schemes to the tenant farmers. It has been 18 months since the Congress came to power but no measures were being taken to fulfil the promises made to tenant farmers, the Rythu Swarajya Vedika representatives alleged.

They said among farmers dying by suicide in Telangana, 75 per cent were tenant farmers. The government should initiate measures to identify tenant farmers and provide full support to them, they demanded.

The Rythu Swarajya Vedika also pointed out that the government had claimed that it was providing Rs 500 bonus on paddy procurement. However, a very small percentage of tenant farmers were receiving the benefit, they said.
