Nirmal: A farmer was on Thursday booked on charges of obstructing officials from discharging duties during a protest staged by farmers at Ervachintala village in Khanapur mandal seeking procurement of paddy two days ago.
Police said a case was registered against Kadari Gopal, a farmer from Ervachintala village under Section 226 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duties) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Investigations were on.
However, Gopal’s family members and locals alleged that he was implicated in the case following pressure exerted by local MLA Vedma Bojju. They said they were shocked when police arrived at his house as part of investigations in the morning. They said he was booked for questioning the government over its negligence in procurement of paddy.
Alleging that the government was indulging in witch hunt, they said it was trying to frame the farmers who protested against it seeking its support.
