Mulugu: The district police have arrested as many as 20 Maoists and seized a huge quantity of firearms and ammunition from them, according to Superintendent of Police Dr. Shabarish P.
Speaking to the media along with Eturnagaram ASP Shivam Upadhyay and other police officers, the SP revealed that one divisional committee member (DVCMs) and five area committee members (ACMs) and 14 party members were among the arrested Maoists.
Three INSAS rifles, four SLRs, one 303 rifle, four 8 mm rifles, 12 bore weapon cartridges, two grenades, 17 magazines, 180 rounds of bullets, Rs. 58,155 in cash, four walkie-talkies, six radios, nine charging batteries, pen drives, memory cards and other material was seized based on the information given by the arrested Maoists.
The SP informed that Maoists who took shelter on Karregutta hillocks had formed into smaller groups and were moving to other places. Mulugu police, who took tight measures to prevent entry of Maoists into the district, arrested the Maoists under Venkatapuram, Wazedu and Kannaigudem police station limits on May 16 and 17.
In another incident, eight Maoists surrendered before the Mulugu SP on Saturday. A divisional committee Member (DVCM), a militia member and six party members from Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh surrendered. The surrendered naxals were given immediate financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each, the SP said.
