Khammam: Seven check posts have been set up on the district and State borders under the limits of Khammam police commissionerate to curb illegal cattle trafficking, said Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt.
He held a video conference with police officers on Saturday and said the check posts would be under continuous surveillance round the clock and would work in coordination with the police and animal husbandry department staff in shifts.
If cattle were transported illegally, cases would be registered. The check posts were aimed at preventing law and order problems caused by illegal cattle transportation and cow slaughter, the SCP Dutt said.
He instructed the police officers to take necessary precautions in the case of cattle transportation, especially during the Bakrid festival, and to take legal action against those who transport cows and calves illegally.
Every vehicle transporting cattle should have valid documents. The rules and regulations should be thoroughly examined in the case of cattle transported from other States, the CP said, adding that no organisation/activist should stop the vehicles on their own; if they have any information regarding illegal cattle transportation, they should inform the police.
Dutt further said that in the backdrop of the beginning of the festival season, a media monitoring cell was set up to check and take action against those who post hateful, provocative, and obscene posts on social media that disrupt religious harmony.
Similarly, the intelligence department would also conduct surprise checks not only at check posts but also at the district headquarters to curb illegal cattle transportation. The following are the places where check posts have been set up.
Paladugu (Wyra mandal), Baswapuram crossroads (Konijarla), Hanuman thanda (Kallur), Venkatagiri crossroads (Khammam Rural), Sublade crossroads (Thirumalayapalem), Palair Singarenipalli Plaza (Kusumanchi) and Vallabhi (Mudigonda mandal).
