Emerald Resistance: Press TV unveils new documentary on Irish support for Palestine at Sobh Festival

Press TV has officially launched a powerful new three-part documentary series titled The Emerald Resistance: Ireland’s Voice for Palestine — highlighting the Irish people’s longstanding support for the people of Palestine.
Directed by Lebanese filmmaker Radwan Mortada and produced by Press TV, the documentary film was unveiled during a special ceremony at the Sobh Media Festival in Tehran on Sunday, May 4.
The documentary series focuses on Ireland’s support and solidarity for the Axis of Resistance, from Palestine to Lebanon and beyond.
It follows Irish comedian and activist Tadhg Hickey and award-winning filmmaker Seán Murray as they embark on a journey across Ireland to explore the country’s deep-rooted solidarity with Palestine.

Through interviews, historical context, and grassroots activism, The Emerald Resistance uncovers how Irish identity and political history have intertwined with the Palestinian struggle for justice.
From the echoes of British colonialism to modern-day advocacy, the documentary series draws compelling parallels between Irish and Palestinian experiences, showcasing the Irish people as one of the most vocal European supporters of Palestinian rights.
Irish activists, trade unions, and civil society groups have consistently condemned Israel’s war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, while calls for sanctions and boycotts have gained traction across the country.
Mick Wallace, a former independent Irish Member of the European Parliament (MEP), who attended the ceremony in Tehran, said that it’s “very humbling” for the Irish people to be part of the global movement to support the Palestinian people.
Ireland, he said, was “illegally occupied” by Britain for 800 years, yet the Irish still know “very little about the suffering of the Palestinians.”
Wallace also said that the Irish government and “every government in the European Union has been complicit in the genocide in Gaza.”
“No EU member state has broken business links with Israel, despite the fact that over 20,000 children have been slaughtered,” he lamented.
Wallace also hailed Iran for “standing against the US Empire” and standing up for the people of Palestine, Lebanon, and Yemen.
Clare Daly, a former MEP who also addressed the ceremony, thanked Press TV for producing a documentary that, she said, “the Irish broadcaster RTÉ would never put together… even though the affinity of the Irish people runs deep” with the people of Palestine.
