Brother of late Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, his sons killed in Gaza strike
A brother of the late Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has reportedly been killed in an Israeli airstrike against an area in the central Gaza Strip.
Media outlets in Gaza report that Zakaria Sinwar was killed along with three of his children in a strike on the tent where they were residing in the Nuseirat refugee camp on Saturday night.
Sinwar had worked as a lecturer of modern and contemporary history at the Islamic University in Gaza.
The reports come shortly after the Saudi television news network al-Hadath alleged that the body of Mohammed Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, was discovered in a tunnel in Khan Yunis that had been targeted by the Israeli military.
The report asserted that ten of Sinwar’s aides were found alongside him, as well as the body of Mohammed Shabana, commander of the Rafah Brigade in Hamas’s military wing.
There was no indication that Abu Ubaida, the spokesperson for Hamas’s military wing Qassam Brigades, was present in the tunnel during the strike.
The Israeli military resumed bombardment of Gaza on March 18, killing thousands of Palestinians, and injuring many others, after it shattered the 2-month ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian group Hamas and the deal on the exchange of Israeli captives with Palestinian abductees.
At least 53,339 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and another 121,034 individuals injured in the brutal Israeli military onslaught on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and former Israeli minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the besieged coastal territory.
